Modern Techniques in Neuroscience Research pp Cite as. Biomechanical analyses of human and animal movements are performed for two basic reasons. The first reason is to analyze the internal and external forces acting on the human or animal system, and to determine the effects of these forces on musculoskeletal tissues, such as tendons, ligaments, articular cartilage, muscle and bone. These studies are typically centered around one of two questions: 1 what is the normal response of musculoskeletal tissues to everyday loading conditions; and 2 what are the loading conditions that may produce acute failure ligament tears or breaking of bones or longterm, chronic tissue failure, for example, the slow and continuous breakdown of articular cartilage in osteoarthritis? This first set of investigations may be called the classic biomechanical investigations. The second principal reason for analyzing human and animal movement has been to determine the mechanisms underlying movement control. Analyzing task-specific movement patterns in normal and perturbed situations has allowed to formulate frameworks of movement control.
