Neuroarthistory is a term coined by Professor John Onians , an art historian at the University of East Anglia in Neuroarthistory is an approach that concerns the neurological study of artists, both living and dead.

In Onians taught the Postgraduate module "Art and the Brain" named after the paper by Professor Semir Zeki [2] which was the first postgraduate course in an art history department that applied neuroscientific principles. In , he began working with Zeki, who is a professor of Neurobiology at University College London and founder of Neuroesthetics to study what goes on in the brains of artists. They used neuroimaging and studied the neurobiological processes of artists such as the painters of the paleolithic Chauvet Cave art.

The reason is that ' neural plasticity ' ensured that passive exposure to different natural and man-made environments caused the formation of different visual preferences. A book, Neuroarthistory: From Aristotle and Pliny to Baxandall and Zeki was published in by Yale University Press, discussing a number of case studies from art history, and being the 'preface' to a further two books on the subject.

Title: Might the museology be a part of neurosciences? The s as well as the first decade after the year have brought numerous attempts of revisiting the fundamental questions related to the reasons for creating art, and the way museums use art for visualizing and planning exhibitions. The real support in these researches was found among neurocognitivists, who, like prof. Semir Zeki, analysed human brain' activity in museums context. This article reports how neuroesthetic was born and developing through art experience, and how museums have been changing when faced with these new approaches. What was noticed by John Onians in his Neuroarthistory, that "neuroscience also made it not just possible, but necessary, to bring back together things long treated as separate — the mind and the body, the sensory system and the motor system, cognition and the viscera" — changed practice in contemporary museums. Conclusion of this text is that the process of "museologising" of the world, we perceive nowadays as a global phenomena, has roots in neuroesthetic experience, transferring visitors to a tangible and multi-sensual world, quite different then virtual and digital everyday practice.

By situating their work in the context of post-Kantian aesthetic discourse, this essay demonstrates that such research provides an opportunity to bridge cognitive and artistic approaches to aesthetic experience and offers a provisional theory of art that incorporates both empirical and philosophical traditions.
