Rural tourism may be defined as the movement of people from their normal place of residence to rural areas for a minimum period of twenty-four hours to the maximum of six months for the sole purpose of leisure and pleasure. Tourism can play an important role in diversifying the rural economy and its expanding in rural areas contributes to the sustainability of the population and the economy of these areas and provides the basis for achieving sustainable rural development. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between tourism and rural development in Doroodzan region of Marvdasht Township, Iran. This study was carried out using a survey method and the data were collected using a questionnaire from head of households in the villages of the region. The results of the data analysis showed that the status of socio-cultural, environmental, economic and rural development in general was rated as moderate.
