Verified Purchase. Excellent book for fourth year geography students. I had to read this book prior to a field course in southeast Iceland and I felt very prepared. You might have to re-read several sections due to the depth of information but, overall, it's a great glaciology book.

Report abuse. There was no damage to the book when it arrived. It was brand new. It was extremely helpful for the class that I was taking and it explained theories really well with the assistance of diagrams. Receive the book, nice smooth and coloured pages. Great quality for a great deal. It is the save book in my school library. Very clear! A very good insight into glaciers, ice sheets etc etc. A geographer or geologist would enjoy this book as would anyone with a general interest in places like Antarctica.

Great book, great service. Good condition. Note: I just bought this book, and therefore cannot review the actual content. But I am extremely disappointed with the production quality of this Kindle edition: - The figures are pixelated, contain noticeable artifacts, and in general are too small.

I needed it for a glacial climatology class. The book contains a great deal of information on glaciers, but very little on climate and a glacier's response to climate change. However, this does not take away from the information on glacial geology.

He fails to demonstrate that these landforms are necessarily formed by glaciers. Throughout he describes how these landforms can be caused by glaciers without showing they can only be formed by glaciers. When they could have been formed by other processes, they cannot demonstrate the existence of glaciers.

About 30 percent of Pennsylvania was covered by glaciers during the Ice Age. It was a time when large sheets of moving ice blanketed the northern half of North America. These glaciers helped to sculpt the hills and valleys of Pennsylvania and deposited materials such as boulders, sediment, and other debris, including pieces of Canada now found in Pennsylvania. Geologists have pieced together thousands of items of information from all parts of the state that they use to tell the story of the Ice Age in Pennsylvania.

Moraines are distinct ridges or mounds of debris that are laid down directly by a glacier or pushed up by it 1. The term moraine is used to describe a wide variety of landforms created by the dumping, pushing, and squeezing of loose rock material, as well as the melting of glacial ice. In terms of size and shape, moraines are extremely varied. Moraines consist of loose sediment and rock debris deposited by glacier ice, known as till. They may also contain slope, fluvial, lake and marine sediments if such material is present at the glacier margin, where it may be incorporated into glacial ice during a glacier advance, or deformed by glacier movement 4,5.

Glacial geomorphology is the scientific study of the processes, landscapes, and landforms produced by ice sheets, valley glaciers, and other ice masses on the surface of the Earth. These processes include understanding how ice masses move, and how glacial ice erodes, transports, and deposits sediment. Landscapes and landforms that developed as a result of glaciation are the dominant focus of this field since they carry distinctive features and forms related specifically to glacial processes. Likewise, glacial geomorphology encompasses the impacts of glaciation upon floral and faunal evolution, modification, and distribution; and includes study of those areas peripheral to glaciated terrains, where drainage pattern alteration, climate, vegetation, and soil conditions are all severely affected by glaciation. Closely allied to glacial geomorphology are studies into the physics of ice masses glaciology , global climatology paleoclimatology , and paleoenvironmental reconstructions palaeoecology.
